On April 1, the reserved space for the extension of the Macao Light Rail Transit (LRT) to Hengqin Port in Zhuhai was handed over to the Macao Special Administrative Region government, paving the way for the potential opening of the Macao Light Rail extension to Hengqin within the year.

The line will ease travel for residents of Guangzhou. The journey to Macao will involve taking the subway or high-speed rail to Guangzhou South Station, transferring to the urban rail to Hengqin Railway Station, and then using the extended Macao Light Rail to travel from Hengqin Station to Lotus Station in Macao, where passengers can transfer to the Macao Light Rail.
